Young Men

Teenager

If your son is a teenager, he is not a boy anymore. He's a young man. You may already be well aware of that. Puberty is the God given announcement of this. The deepening voice, the peach fuzz, your increased grocery bill should all alert you to the coming of the young man. And with the young mans body comes a young mans soul, with new challenges and new needs. A young mans greatest challenge now becomes filling out this man-size body and discovering if he is a man underneath it all. Does he have what it takes to be a man? His heart must have an answer. And what does he most need in this time? Adventures and challenges to test his strength and affirmation from a father and other men who will lead him in these adventures. In other words, he needs to be initiated.

The Struggle

How does counseling work? What does it cost?
The transition for a boy into manhood is probably the place that parents and teenage young men have the most strife. Fathers struggle to move closer to their sons and initiate and affirm them. Mothers may hold on too long or try to make up for the fathers lack of presence. And sons may choose to rebel or act out or look for their identity elsewhere. Weve lost a culture of initiation.

Parent Coaching

There is no shame in needing help in this time. Let counseling be a place for fathers to learn what their sons need and how to give it to them. Let it be a place for mothers to know how to grieve the loss of the boy and welcome this new man. Let it be a place for sons to learn to connect to their hearts without rebelling and acting out.
